The importance of the service offered by Gynaecology Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialists to women with ovarian cancer and their families cannot be overstated.  This is why Ovarian Cancer Action is backing the RCN’s Frontline First campaign.

Clinical Nurse Specialists play a vital role in the provision of treatment and care, often acting as the main point of contact for patients and their families, bringing specialist experience and offering knowledge and care that is personalised to the needs of the patient.

Nurse specialists often act as a woman’s advocate when she finds it difficult to approach her consultant; in addition, the nurse specialist is available to discuss issues and problems that patients and their families may be experiencing, and to provide links to information and support groups.  6,700 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer every year, and it is the fifth most common cancer amongst women.

It is vital that access to Clinical Nurse Specialists is maintained.
